Dateline: October 2005
Twins' Age: Freshly 4
Double Daddy's old maroon robe. The sippies. The hot pink cast "vase." The half-chocolate Eggo waffles. (The kids still ask for them, believe the manufacturer was heckled into a nutritional-lack shame circle. We cannot find them anywhere.)
So many visible reminders of that moment in time. An invisible memory of that month? That October, we discovered Double Daddy had melanoma.
Now, nearly seven years, four surgeries, a round of targeted radiation, a clinical trial and too many scans to count later----after frequent, blissfully lengthy and much-appreciated windows of cancer-free living---we learned Monday, Double Daddy once again has to fight the fight.
Knowing my man's strength, humor, determination and love for his family warms my heart this challenging mid-week. Knowing the loving support and prayers of family and friends will buoy us all these coming months makes the challenge of this time seem less so.
Play along with Way Back When-esday.
