That Special Someone....

Think back. Surely you remember a clandestine cheek kiss or two with a kindergarten paramour in the cloak room, don't you? (or am I the only one old enough to remember the "cloak room?")

As Sarah began this year, there was a precious young classmate who caught her eye. He had (and has) a mischievious grin and a charismatic twinkle about him; truly, I was as enchanted as she. Her first love notes written and received will forever be linked to "M."

Time passes. Students move away; others join in. Mid-year, "M" wasn't the topic of as many conversations. Suddenly, "K" was in the fore of Sarah's afterschool regalings. "K" is entertaining. He is an attention-getter. He bubbles to the top of the frothy concoction that is a day in kindergarten.

But today, today brought things full circle. On a sunny day on the elementary school lawn, atop sheets and towels and sundry spread blankets, "M" came and sat down right between Sarah and me, his infectious grin spread from ear to ear.

Kindergarten is most assuredly coming to a close; but certain key -- dare I say, love-based --relationships are destined for the long -- at least through 5th grade -- haul. How I hope Sarah's and "M's" friendship falls into that category. Either way, they'll always have their love notes...and a picture or two....

Oh, my...the kindness in that boy's eyes just speaks volumes. We should all hope our babes find friends as obviously sweet as he is.

Thanks for your amazingly insightful and inspiring comment on my 'hope' post...I will revel in that carrot, indeed.
