For three years running, the twins and I have gone to PBS Kids Day at The Diamond (the home field of the Atlanta Braves' single-A team). Sadly, next year, the team relocates to Georgia...but for now...we can still enjoy. And with six-year-old twins, the enjoyment (especially from Mama's perspective) comes far easier than it did in the dual kid corralling, tight-gripping, chaotic crowd anxiety producing, teetering toddler balance on mountainous cement steps attempts of the past.
In retrospect, I actually planned to take them at the tender age of three, when their passion for PBS was perhaps at an all-time high, but the event was rained out -- a true shower of blessing, now that I realize how challenging age four was!
As soon as we entered the complex, a celebrity meet and greet line awaited us. If we'd only known we would be seeing one of our favorites, I'd have brought our books for him to sign!
Far be it from me not to cave in to full-bore Americana (at the price of $3.25 per bag)...
A ball was hit out of the park (Go Braves!), we learned how to recognize the trumpet call to action and when to yell "Charge!," the kids refreshed me on how to do the Macarena, our coordination and timing on participating in "The Wave" improved hundredfold, we watched dizzied kids relay after heat-intensified batspins, we discussed what to do if a foul ball headed straight for us (cradle and catch, cradle and catch), we stretched in the seventh inning, and of course, we sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." And even at the mature age of six (and 43), we yelled our hearts out encouraging Curious George to sprint ahead of Clifford the Big Red Dog as they circled the bases.
Overall, the day was a homerun.

looks like a blast!
Sounds like fun! I had Cracker Jacks for the first time in years and I swear they taste different now than when I was a kid.
They met Curious George. I'm so sooooo jealous and so are my kids :)
what a fun day! The Braves our my favorite team, too!
