This piece is perhaps the outstanding work in Darren's approximately month-long era of "Mommy, please draw a ________ in pencil for me to color." The stripe placement and face delineation are entirely his own.

A careful study in pattern, color balance, symmetry and calligraphy, this combination of the natural and fantastical was inspired by the handmade journal making of her beloved kindergarten teacher, Emily Hooker.
