Real-Life Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

The vehicular mode for our family has changed this year (not without a bit of prideful kicking and screaming from me), from '93 Volvo wagon to '02 Honda Odyssey. In 20/20 illuminated retrospect, my apprehension was ill-founded. As it turns out, we (including me) all adore the new Lagemobile.

And in keeping with the party, here's how we roll....

If driving through Virginia you happen to see our license plate, be sure to honk and wave!

The passenger side floor. A quick inventory: a replicated Sonic comic book prize, Muppets in Space (for trips of 45 minutes or more -- I'm a DVD dictator in-van. No video entertainments for in town travel), CD case, Goodwill receipt, a piece of artwork from kindergarten, and an envelope full of flyers and artist applications for our church's pending arts festival. (October 4th, if you're in Richmond, drop me a line!)

The driver's side door pocket. Inventory: My badge for docent-dom at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (red flag for an art history major), and yes, a crumpled doughnut bag from 7-11. (Don't tell my first love, Krispy Kreme.)

Dashboard gauges. The pink silk rose head was a Darren parking lot find when in Pre-K. I've kept it where it can cheer me, from Volvo to van.

From the rear-view mirror. A tissue paper poppy made by Sarah last Mother's Day at church. It's faded a smidge.
Precious cargo x 2.

Ah yes...the soccer mom vehicle. We have the Kia equivalent...only we *had* to purchase the van because 3 car seats just won't fit into many other cars! And, as we all know, car seats are not only necessary, they are mandatory.

Dang. your van is much cleaner than mine....

Love how you roll--especially the kid keepsakes. Precious.

looks pretty clean!!

That's actually pretty clean!
The only reason why mine is cleaner is because it's brand new...and I did the opposite...traded in from a Minivan to a Subaru Forester.

I was reluctant to say the least when we decided to go the minivan route. But I must say that now I drive one, I adore it! We are expecting girl #3 in November and needed the extra room for another car seat!
Oh, and I am also a movie dictator when it comes to watching in the van. I figure they can keep themselves busy for awhile (but I understand, nay encourage, a little movie watching if we are going far!

A car is like a rolling storage/living room, really...yours looks nice and clean you know! We have Saltine crumbs, pencils, a roll of paper towels under the front passenger seat (circa 1998) and - well, probably the cardigan someone's desperately looking for in their room, but where IS it, mom?

Love the pics! And thanks for your sweet comment at Kitchen Retro, you made my evening!

I swore that I would never drive a mom van. Then I had four babies and got an Odyssey and now I am a total convert. I lu-u-u-rve my van!

And I have those little sentimental kid creations in my car, too! My fave is a note from Francie that says "I love you, Mom" written in hieroglyphics. She's a pip!

I will be posting this fall sometime about buying a mini van! We're looking at our options and want input from those who drive 'em and who better than all the multiple mommies out here! I currently drive a truck and it just won't be easy to get a 3rd seat in there (it'll fit, but getting all 3 kids in and out would be tough). I do love my truck, but I'm ok with a van and honestly, looking forward to getting a new vehicle! Always fun!!

I have Odyssey envy. Bad. I squeeze our brood into a 2002 Saab 9-3 sedan. We're a hot mess.

We're stickin' with our compact, but boy have I enjoyed my spins in other people's Odyssey's.

Oh please let's not have "show us your minivan" day! Archeologists and psychologists would have a heyday with mine.

LOVE Sarah's pink booster seat!

Very funny idea. I think that would be a fun carnival.
