Jars of Clay

Always one to work to deadline, apparently I'm passing along my tendency to my tots. This morning, with "Disciple Dollars" hanging in the balance, Sarah reminded me, "We haven't learned our memory verse yet!" Not only had we not worked on it yet, I'd not even looked it up.

Here it is (printed for their easy "study"):

We talked a bit about what we interpreted the verse to mean -- that like clay-formed objects, we are made to accomplish something. We're purposed, but we're also fragile, breakable, imperfect -- and the tough things we make it through (see yesterday's post) are by God's grace and power.

After reading the text, it became clear why they had made projects from fast-drying clay last week in Sunday School.

Here's Darren's:
Here's Sarah's:
Never one to pass up an opportunity to explore the meaning in art...

Mommy: "You know Sarah, I think the pieces you and Darren sculpted last week are a lot like the two of you are. Darren's has a good, strong base; it looks quiet, but like a volcano, it is deep and bubbles up with energy and excitement. Yours is so bright, pretty and smooth on the outside; but then when you take the time to look inside, it's absolutely full of beautiful golden sparkle."

Sarah: "Tell me about mine again."

Cheryl,
What a wonderful way to comment on their art. I always try to go further than "that's nice honey" but you've really inspired me!

You said THE most perfect things about their art. (My mother would have done the same- I know that is a weird thing for me to say, but people are always telling me that they wish they could be a mom like my mother.) So, it is a compliment.
You probably tell really good bedtime stories too.

Cheryl,
What a great project & a great comment to give your kids. You are a great mom with 2 great, artisic children. Such talent - I think they inherited this from their mom!!!!

While I would love to bask in the glow of you all's kind words, more often than not, I feel woefully ill-equipped as a parent. Truly, I have been blessed with children extraordinaire. Their output of all kinds (verbal, artistic, or in yesterday's instance, biological ;) ) is such a reminder of the awe-inspiring task/honor/privilege/responsibilitybeing entrusted with two unique individuals truly is.

Thankfully, I have your blogs (that I reference regularly!) for insight, uplifting, empathy, humor, support...

In the 21st century, it takes an internet village to raise a child...I'm happy to be a part of one!
