Pleading the Fifth...

Actually, Fifth's Disease.

Claiming his around-the-mouth bumpy redness after school yesterday was merely the result of a candy cane hooked upon -- and swung from -- his nose, Darren's explanation was suspicious. However, he had no symptoms. He was upbeat and happy. Life last night progressed as normal.

At bedtime, against his wishes, Darren was dosed with Benadryl (and yes, the whipped cream chaser) and went to bed.

This morning? Far worse. Off to the pediatrician's. (Where plenty of parents in waiting were holding containers for any possible output their tots might produce. Ugh.) Darren's diagnosis: Fifth's Disease...an inordinately late-in-childhood first case. No longer contagious, he is a bit itchy, and the scarlet scourge is predicted to intensify and spread southward.

The bright side? A Christmas card interior (and exterior) stamping assistant!

My kids love to stamp too! though, I hate the mess that goes along with it (when they do the stamping)!

Doesn't Fifth's disease have the scariest name? It seems like a birth defect or something not just a rash. We have so many sickies in this house it's getting hard to keep track. Is it always going to be this way?
