If You Give a Mom a Fish...

You know what she'll do for day.

As the adage illuminates so artfully, while it's extraordinarily nice to give... it's a short term solution. Always best to teach...and learn.

The whole "fish" analogy is not lost on me with the pending "Fishful Thinking" symposium this weekend in NY.

When I was first contacted by the team coordinating the event, immediately I popped over to the Pepperidge Farms-sponsored site. All too often,"web resources" affiliated with a product -- or a group of products -- serve as more of a mouthpiece for e-commerce (a.k.a. sales) than e-content (a.k.a. service). FishfulThinking.com flew in the face of those pejorative preconceptions!

FishfulThinking is upbeat. FishfulThinking is encouraging. FishfulThinking is positive. FishfulThinking is bright. FishfulThinking is welcoming. FishfulThinking quite literally smiles.

Their "brand" feels like the brand I aspire to...both blogging and parenting. If you haven't checked it out, do! If you want to come to the symposium this weekend, do!

Do I sound like a commercial? You know what? In this instance, after fully exploring the site, researching the expert (and twin mama!) Dr. Karen Reivich, as well as my interactions with the recruiters, coordinators and other moms on board, I'm 100% okay being perceived as one! Whenever I discover something I think is worth sharing, I tell people I care about...in real life, and online.

This weekend I expect to be inspired, rejuvenated -- and to meet other parents committed to the realistic (not inflated!) bolstering of our kids.

Sure they may give me some fish to eat for the day; but I'm expecting to learn some lessons for a lifetime. Looking forward to sharing!

I really wish I could come up! It's SO close to me... but I will be house shopping instead;)
Looking forward to all you have to tell after going. (Pepperidge Farms is one of the companies that i can actually allow my kids to eat because it doesn't have tons of harmful chemicals)

Sounds great! I'm sort of sorry I won't get to go. (Who knows, depending on what kind of week I have, I might just hop in the car and drive south!)

Good for you for looking into it. Corporations aren't all bad. :-)
