Way Back When-esday: From Black to the Track

Dateline: June 2005
Twins' Age: 3

Funny how these weekly perusals of the pictures can bring back so many memories. The above image brought a huge smile to my face---and not solely because Darren's irrepressible grin! Both twins are wearing something so very reflective of their interests and personalities at 3 1/2.

The summer of 2005 was characterized by weekly (if not bi-weekly) treks to the public play train tables at Barnes and Noble, Books a Million and The Playroom....supplemented by lengthy sessions at our own Figure 8 Thomas track in the family den. Darren's tee in all likelihood was thematically indicative of the day's events.

And then there's sweet Sarah. Beautiful, beloved, black-clad Sarah.

At her 2 year well-child visit to the pediatrician, in attempts to assess her verbal skills and basic learning, the doctor asked, "Sarah, what is your favorite color?" Not missing a beat and responding as she had consistently since she could identify the colors of the spectrum (and the neutrals) she replied, "Black!" With an eyebrow raised, but not batting an eye, the doctor said in all his years as a pediatrician, she was very the first 2-year-old girl to have ever given that answer. Truth told, her enigmatic sense of self has always thrilled me. Even now, when she declares the 1st grade female pan-popular pink and purple have usurped that prized position at the top of her color preferences, I still wonder...and hope....

"black." LOL! That's awesome :)

Our Thomas phase was much too short for my taste. Perhaps Logan will get into it soon and drag Burke back in :)

Playing along! Zimmer Zoo

Loving the pink jelly shoes Sarah's sporting with the black dress -- she has great taste :) I did not know B&N have train tables.... though after the last few Walmart trips solo with my duo, I've declared us homebound for awhile as they've not gone well at all.

I love WBW- such a good reminder we're halfway through the work week!!

Sarah's black story is such a great one!! I love it when my kids truly throw me for an unexpected (but happy) loop. Watching them do that to someone else is just about perfect. :)

We are sooo into Thomas all of a sudden. I remember the days at Barnes and Noble with my oldest, and now since Liam is into it we have all of my oldest's Thomas leftovers. Still should take them to B&N just for the whole experience.

An favorite color black...hey I think that is just cute!
