Opposites Attract

Board books initiated the fascination years ago. Now, well-entrenched in the elementary era, pairings like big & small, quiet & loud, hard & soft are apparently too jejune.

My inability to provide acceptable answers---based upon the ill-founded assumption that all words have antonyms---is undermining my formerly indisputed parental intelligence.

Over breakfast...

Sarah: "What's the opposite of Webkinz?"

Mommy (lacking confidence): "Medicine?"

Sarah (with superiority, and a hint of pity): "No. Neopets. What's the opposite of philosopher?"

Mommy (thinking she was pulling out one of her favorite words): "Dullard!"

Sarah: "Enchantress."

After school...

Sarah: "What's the opposite of Skittles?"

Mommy: "Peas."

Sarah (disgusted): "No. M&M's"

On the way home from Darren's tae kwon do lesson...

Sarah: "What's the opposite of QDoba [Mexican fast food restaurant]?"

Mommy (figuring maybe a near synonym might work): "Chipotle."

Darren (semi-appalled): "No, Mom. Noodles & Company."

Sarah (genuinely elated): "Right, Darren!"

Maybe there's a smidge of truth to the twin-speak mystique after all......

P.S. Thank you to all for the lovely anniversary greetings, participation in this week's Way Back When-esday and hysterical comments on the litany on the "overrated!" Been a bit stretched, but will get to returning comments---and the list of the underrated---soon!

Thanks for the laugh! Your daughter's quite the wordsmith with "philosopher" and "enchantress"!

That is awesome! I just learned that I am so amazingly stupid. I wouldn't have gotten any of those. But I have to say that swing picture is absolutely fantastic! I can't wait to show my kids in the morning.

LOL, that's so cute! Twins really do have a special connection that's fun to watch grow. :)
