How is that different from all my other posts, you ask? Usually I am basking in the glory of my progeny, a source of pride easily rationalized by the parenting population at large.
You've been warned.
We have a new ice-cream shop. Walking distance from our house. A scandalously short walking distance. Nowhere near long enough to work off the calories from even a kiddie-sized portion.
While Darren enjoyed his after-school program the other day, Sarah and I decided to give it a try...
Mommy: "Hey Sarah, as a special treat*, let's try out the new ice cream store!"
(*as if I needed to qualify the indulgence...)
Sarah: "I don't know. Maybe we should just get some gelato from the coffee shop."
Mommy: "Honey, the coffee shop is already a huge success, and we'll still go there often. Let's go support the new business, and let the owners know we're glad they're here."
And so we did...Sarah: "I don't know. Maybe we should just get some gelato from the coffee shop."
Mommy: "Honey, the coffee shop is already a huge success, and we'll still go there often. Let's go support the new business, and let the owners know we're glad they're here."
Sarah: "That place is great. I thought they'd just have the fundamentals."
Mommy: "The fundamentals?"
Sarah: "You know, just the most basic flavors."
Guess the basics don't merit a "brag."

I totally want some icecream now. :)
And I love that Sarah said "fundamentals!"
your kids are smart as a whip...both of them just amaze me!
Just catching up on your blog! That cast is hilarious! I laughed so hard I about blew lemonade all over the computer. And yes the lysol is true glam, doll. The halloween costumes were simply adorable. And I'm with Sarah on the ice cream "fundamentals." I like the interesting flavors better.
LOL "Fundamentals" Now...when I'm in the mood for vanilla, I'm just going to have to use that word. *grin*
...glad there isn't one within walking distance of me though...yikes!
Don't you love it when they come out sounding all grown??
I love hearing the stories of your kids!!
Fundamentals? That is too funny!
Fundamentals is in her vocabulary? WOW.:)
I like those fundementals - like vanilla. But I really like you kid's sayings andcomments. Priceless!
The fundamentals are the best! LOL!
And if I had an ice cream place within walking distance they'd have to get a resstraining order against me.
That is a perfect word to describe what's important to her! Love it.
Daughter of a writer...
Fundamentals indeed.
What next?
I wonder where they learn all their big words?? hahaha!!
I'm so jealous you have an ice cream shop and a coffee shop within walking distance!! We're easily 5 -10 miles from town!
I love the fundamentals too - as long as there's hot fudge on top! I'm always trying to talk my kids into ice cream - desperate for an excuse to indulge. My favorite is Maggie Moos - one of those mix-in places.
I'm glad I don't live close to an ice cream shop - it would be much too tempting (ice cream is my fav food!!)
LOL at her 'fundamentals'!
I just like the fact that she was thinking about a gelato from the coffee shop . . . a girl after my own heart!
OMGosh! LOL Fundamentals! Now, there's a kid who listens to the news! (since "fundamentals" is the key word in just about every speech)
Lucky ducks with icecream just around the corner! All of our icecream places close for the winter :(
icecream shop in walking distance...I am sooo jealous. icecream is my downfall. cute pic of sarah and the pink icecream cone!
The fundamentals?! That's fabulous. They should get to put up a sign in the window that says, "More than just the fundamentals - S.L."
Personally, I love the fundamentals...as long as cookies n' cream is considered one of the basics.
*giggles* Kids say the cutest things! She's a cutie pie!
But you'll have to ask her for me what's wrong with "fundamentals"? Sometimes you're just in a "vanilla" sort of mood. lol
Yumm, Ice-cream!
The smle on her face makes me think you're both going to find plenty of reason to go back.
Fundamentals! She's very sharp! You have every reason to gloat!
