Some weeks ago, ThreeUnderTwo (of Lit & Laundry fame) featured a few darling amigurumi animals she had crafted on her weekly Friday post. Sarah immediately declared, "Mommy, you need to make me some of those!" Admittedly, I was intrigued and motivated; but my crochet skills -- and maybe even my hooks -- were rusty.
In order to reacquaint my fingers with the practice, we collectively decided I'd ease back into yarn craft with a straightforward, single-crochet only scarf for Darren.
He picked the yarn. He picked the width. He tested the length periodically. Yesterday morning, a particularly cold one...
Darren: "Let's see if my scarf is long enough!"
Mommy (holding the still attached skein): "Wrap it around and see..."
Darren (smiling--with a very warm neck): "It's PERFECT!!
His response made each stitch worth every moment of effort. It may not look like much, but am I ever happy with it...and its wearer.
(And yes, Sarah has already selected the amigurumi pattern and yarn for her project...)
Now go over to Lit & Laundry and see what the real crafters are up to!

I'm COMPLETELY jealous of anyone who can crochet. I have yet to get the hang of it, and I've tried. Oh, how I've tried.
Wow! Your talents are never-ending! Great job!!!!
Well done! Can't wait to see how your little animals turn out. And Darren, good choice on the yarn!
wow that is awesome!!! i am so challenged in this area!
Great job! And I agree about the great yarn choice.
If you can do that, you can make amigurumi. It just takes counting skills and knowing how to increase/decrease.
Thanks for joining in!
Good going girl! I can not cochet at all.
It's beautiful! Glad Darren loves it!
I'm so impressed that you can do that! It looks great. I think it's the wearer gives it that true je-ne-sais-quoi, though.
nice work! I used to be crafty...scrapbooks, painting, flowers/wreaths, etc etc...not much time for that these days! Someday again maybe...
WOW! Those apples didn't fall far from the tree, you're right. What a cute family!
So great that Darren loves his scarf, being appreciated is what it's all about!
Very cute, love the colors!
It looks great! And he appreciates it! That's awesome!!
Great job on the scarf!
I learned how to crochet a while back. I wanted to crochet some christmas stockings. It takes 17 little granny "octagons" to make one stocking. I have exactly 17 made. Now, just 153 little granny "octagons" to make...
It's great! I keep waiting for my yarn to crochet itself. Lazy yarn.
That's really cool! I joined a Prayer Shawl group at church and the lady's there showed me how to crochet. I'm slowly working my way up to harder things. Right now I'm working on some small afgahns for children at the Ronald McDonald house. It's so much fun!
Take care!
Oh it IS perfect!!
...and totally makes me want to start up my Stitch -n- B*tch group again... I LOVE crocheting!!
When he's done with it, I'll take it.
Oh, I love to crochet! I'm not very good at it, but I did make the babies their blankets and would love to make some simple scarfs...if I only had the time. :) Can't wait to see more finished projects from you.
That's beautiful! He looks quite pleased with it too.
I keep promising myself I'll take up crochet this year. It's still early yet. We'll see.
