You know those fill-in-the-blank thank you notes marketed to parents for their children, the ones reminiscent of Mad Libs: "Dear ______________, Thank you for the ______________. Love, ________________ " ?
Right from the get-go, they seemed too creativity-squelching. Too facile. Too limiting. While I respect the intent to maintain the mannered tradition of written acknowledgement, the pre-fab papers simply seem...wrong.
Granted, we're late getting our Christmas notes out this year, but when I saw this one from Darren to our neighbor across the street, how grateful I was we'd never succumbed to the too-easy temptation.
My little man's self-composed card of thanks Makes My Monday.

Good for him! Who wouldn't love to get a note like this? So sweet.
awww! What a sweet thank you card.
That is just the sweetest note!
What a good guy! Original too! I think you may have a fellow writer on your hands!
You must be one proud mommy..
That was the most thoughtful thing I ever saw and such commendable effort.
Thank you cards are very important in my eyes. I love sending and receiving them. That is an awesome thank you card. He did an great job. You have done good work with them!
Aww! That would make my Monday too Cheryl! I agree that it's too pre-fab. Darren sounds like such a sweet little guy!
Renee ;)
That's great! Homemade thank you cards are so appreciated!
Very cool idea! I used to LOVE Mad Libs, too!!! Makes me want to go buy some now! :-)
Have I told you lately that your kids rock? :)
And DOH! That reminds me - we have to get Thank You notes in the mail!!
My kids just did theirs and oh how I love the phonetic spellings the best.
Thank you cards seem to be a lost art these days. Such a sweet card. I was thinking my kids are still a little young to do this, but your post has inspired me. Even if Abby can just write thank you and Noah can color on them a bit, at least they will get the idea. :)
Happy New Year!
That is the sweetest thing!
I used the prefab cards for both girls when they were 2 and Hailey used them again at age 3. They couldn't write enough to do anymore and I didn't want to write them for them! Now they write their own notes! Except if Hailey has A LOT to say then she starts it, I fill in the middle and she ends it!
That is just the sweetest card EVER! What a lovely boy you have there :)
ps Sorry i forgot to come over and sign in until now. UGH It;s been one of those days...
