Thankfully, elementary students can't text in class.
Much as was done in our antiquated school days, note-passing is still the norm. Sarah sits between two star-crossed second graders. Boy K is new to the school; Girl D is the reciprocating object of his affections.
Dinner time conversation...
Sarah: "Two kids in my class are boyfriend/girlfriend and they sit right next to each other with me in the middle!" [Mom's note to self: Have a little review session on what 'next to' means.]
Mommy: "How do you know they're boyfriend and girlfriend?"
Sarah: "Well, they write notes to each other and I pass 'em back and forth."
Mommy: "Don't get in trouble for doing that. What do they say?"
Sarah (excitedly): "One said, ''K loves D.' Another said, 'You're hot.'"
Mommy: "You know, I don't think that's really too appropriate."
Sarah (more excitedly): "That's not all! Then, he called her the 's' word!"
Mommy (entirely confused at the prospect): "The 's' word? Really? What 's' word?"
Sarah (exasperated): "You know. The word grown-ups use for pretty: S-e-x-y."
Ugh. Mom's note to self: No cell phones for my kids. Ever. Notes are bad enough.

Oh kids just grown up too fast! But a great conversations!
Oh my goodness. This makes my stomach lurch. Thank GOD Sarah is talking to you about this stuff.
OMGosh! WOW! Sexy? Really? Geez! Where has innocence gone???
Sexy? Oh my! Well, I am not really surprised - when browsing recently, I saw a pair of pants at Walmart in the young girl dept that said "Hot" on the back. Really?!?
Just call her little cupid.
What I wouldn't give to be called sexy again...and if it's in writing, there's no backsies!
No phones of ANY kind.
Smoke signals should be okay though.
oh...being in a school, it amazes me the things I hear from kids...even as young as 1st grade! But then again...being in the inner city school I'm in...I'm also amazed at what I see and hear coming from some of the parents, too....ugh!!
Seriously!? Oh my!
