Way Back When-esday: Similar Siblings

Dateline: February 2007
Twins' Age: 5

As most mothers of boy/girl twins will attest, onlookers with surprising frequency will ask new twin mothers if their stroller-bound twins are identical. Even when the response, "No, they are actually a boy and a girl," is offered, the questioner nearly always persists with a "Yes, but are they identical?"

From their earliest of days, our twins looked---and behaved---differently. Rare is the occasion wherein I see actual physical resemblance between the two of them.

In this image, however, I do think they look like brother and sister...and maybe even twins.

Mirrored closed-mouth grins and synchronized head tilts warm my heart this mid-week.

Why don't you dive into your digital files and play along with Way Back When-esday?

Seek out an overlooked snapshot or scan a scrapbook find...share an image you might not otherwise. Tell the tale and place a post on your blog. Be sure and link back to participate in the web-wide reverie...and please leave a comment when you do!

1. This is adorable.
2. I'm glad I'm not the only one who argues with strangers over whether or not the Crazies are identical.
3. I hate explaining that they can't be identical because of their parts "down there." Poor old people are traumatized!

At a quick glance, I think our girls look very different from each other. It's so sweet for me to occasionally glimpse a similarity. :)

Now that the girls are a little older and their hair color is almost the same (from jet black and white-blonde at birth!), there are times I have to do a double take, at least from behind. And that kinda makes me smile, too.

Heehee. I got a good chuckle over that.

Now that is too funny that they still ask if they're identical! LOL They're adorably identical; how's that?

Ah, yes. We get asked that all the time. For a while it amazed me that people didn't remember their high school biology, but then I remembered that I had a really fantastic science teach and maybe they did not :) Ours do look shockingly similar though. I can hardly blame people who ask (except the NICU nurse...she should have known better...).
